TMJD isn’t just pain or clicking while eating, the sneaky joint(s) can create many more issues, and luckily for you, many of those symptoms can be treated!
Here is a list of common symptoms related to TMJ dysfunction:
- Ringing, buzzing, watery feeling in one or both ears
- Persistent headaches or migraines
- Unexplained dizziness
- Electric-like face or jaw pain
- Back and/or front of the neck pain or stiffness
- Soreness or tightness in the throat while swallowing Symptoms are plentiful when dealing with TMJ dysfunction. At Wāv we do a thorough exam to determine where there is dysfunction. The majority of the time your neck and jaw are both involved.
The muscles that help move and stabilize your jaw are connected into your head (skull) and neck (front and back). When these muscles are injured, tight, or just plain dysfunctional it can create symptoms in both your neck and your jaw. The problem can stem from the neck and create TMJ issues, or it can stem from the jaw and create neck issues. Either way, both areas need thorough examination and a comprehensive plan for treatment.
